TEAM HISTORY
Last year, things turned sour for Perpetual a few days before the tipoff of Season 86. Now, as we unfold a new season, it's deja vu for the Altas. As the banned status for Nuilan remained, the management of UPHSD decided not to field in Marlon Gomez as well despite getting the green light to don a Perpetual jersey for the first and last time. And about a week before the opening, Boris Aldeguer, who called the shots for the Altas in the last three years called it quits. Morale should have been a notch higher for the Perpetual team who are touted to barge into the Final Four. But with the 'departure' of their head coach and the loss of two key pieces in their campaign is slowly taking a toll on the entire team this early. Wanting to improve their last place finish last year might have to take a back seat for now. The Altas, to be led by court general Chris Elopre will have to pump up his comrades in order to make both ends meet for Perpetual, who will now be coached by Jimwell Gican. Mark Sumera, George Allen and Justin Alano will have to squeeze out all the energy they could from themselves and the young ones in the team to have a decent finish in their third hosting stint in the NCAA. In what could've been the last collegiate playing year for Gomez and Nuilan has vanished through thin air. Gican noted that, he will be using the same system that the boys are familiar with. Adjustments and surprises are expected of from the Altas, who doesn't want to go back to Las Pinas disappointed. The pull-out of Gomez from the lineup despite being 'eligible' to play seems to be a silent protest from the camp of this year's host. Now, it is up to the young guns of Perpetual to prove that even without their two best guys, they still can't be taken lightly by the favored teams.
