Generals gun for 2nd win against Heavy Bombers

COMING off a long rest, Emilio Aguinaldo College returns to the hardcourt against Jose Rizal University today, even as Mapua looks to bounce back when it tackles College of St. Benilde in today's twinbill in the 87th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) men’s basketball tournament.

The Generals debuted with an 84-77 victory over the Arellano Chiefs last July 4, and the long rest could either work on their favor or make them rusty against the Heavy Bombers in their 2 p.m encounter.

The Heavy Bombers should be a dangerous opponent for the Generals after absorbing back-to-back losses to the San Sebastian Stags and 73-67and the Chiefs, 75-79.

In the other seniors match slated at 4 p.m, Mapua, playing minus suspended 6-7 banger Fil-Palestiniain Yousef Taha, clashes with College of st. Benilde.

Taha was meted a one-game suspension after he was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct during their loss to the Letran Knights, 65-76 in the opener.

Without Taha, who had a double-double of ten points and ten rebounds against the Knights, Mapua's interior is considerably weakened, and will rely heavily on the versatile Allan Mangahas to score and make the plays. Mangahas scored 23 points in a losing effort against Letran.

The Generals will again rely on Ellyzer Paguia after scoring th 22 points and grabbing nine rebounds in their first outing.

Also tipped to put up big numbers are Emilian Vargas and Jan Jamon, who had 18 and 15 points in the team's first win.

A win by the Generals will tie them for the second spot with the San Beda Red Lions.

The Heavy Bombes, meanwhile, will be counting on Ronnel Carampil, who normed 17 points in their last two games, and John Lopez (16 points and 10.5 rebounds).
