Asian pro teams scout Azkals' Guirado
MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Azkals striker Angel Guirado is reportedly being scouted by representatives of Asian professional teams after the Filipino-Spanish footballer turned free agent.
Guirado told Philstar.com columnist Joaquin Henson that he will no longer renew his contract with Spanish league Third Division club Ronda.
Scouts from Indonesia, Japan and China are closely watching Guirado’s progress with the Philippine Azkals. United Arab Emirates is also reportedly monitoring the Filipino-Spanish.
Guirado said he is also open to moving to Manila, where he could possibly play for United Football League clubs.
“It’s not just the money that I’m looking at,” he said in Henson’s report.
“My priority is to play in a high-level league where I can improve my game. I’m open to the idea of relocating to Manila where I have many relatives. I’ve always loved the Philippines and I’m looking forward to visit Boracay, Palawan and Isabela where my grandfather lives,” he said.
Guirado helped the Azkals hammer a 4-0 win over Sri Lanka in the home game of Round 1 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Azkals are scheduled to return to training this weekend after taking a short break since advancing to Round 2 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Nationals' away game will be against Kuwait in Hawalli on July 23.
The home game will take place 5 days later at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
