Orcullo maintains top ranking in world pool
Dennis Orcullo remained on top of the World Pool Association (WPA) rankings despite failing to enter the 2011 World 9-Ball Championship won by Japan's Yukio Akagariyama.
Orcullo, who lost to compatriot Ronnie Alcano in the semifinals, gained 640 points after reaching the semifinals of the World 9-Ball Championship in Doha, Qatar for a 2,510 total with the 2011 U.S. Open as the only remaining event in the WPA Tour.
Akagariyama clinched 1,000 points after beating Alcano, 13-11, in the finals. He jumped from 13th to second place with 2,100 points.
Ronnie Alcano, who lost to Akagariyama in the World 9-Ball finals, slipped to third. He earned 800 points after losing in the finals against the Akagariyama.
Lee Van Corteza remained at eighth place with 1,501 points. Antonio Lining dropped from third to 10th with 1,395.
Carlo Biado improved from 26th to 14th with 1,304 points after reaching the Round of 32 while Venancio Tanio, who reached the quarterfinals, climbed from 45th to 29th (908 points).
Francisco "Django" Bustamante, last year's world 9-ball titlist, made a big drop from ninth to 38th with 760 points after being eliminated by Orcullo in the Round of 16.
