Benilde Blazers eye better season
THE rookie-laden College of St. Benilde Blazers are looking forward to a better season in the 87th National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament.
Blazers coach Richard del Rosario said this after he tinkered with the present roster of the team during the summer.
With six mainstays leading the way and nine rookies eager to prove themselves, the Blazers are a mixture of talents that could help improve the team’s seventh-place finish last season.
Del Rosario believes that improvements in terms of team chemistry throughout the season, will bring the squad to new heights.
Carlo Lastimosa, who averages 17.25 points per game, will carry much of the scoring load for the Blazers.
“Hopefully, it will be better for us this season,” said Del Rosario, who is now on his third season.
Del Rosario is also counting on the performances of five other veterans like Ian de la Paz, Tim McCoy, Ralph Nayve, Luis Sinco and the six-foot-five Jan Tan.
After relegating three members of the team relegated to Team B, Del Rosario will be leaning on newcomer Jonathan Grey, a walk-in recruit from the school’s intrams, to back up Lastimosa in offense.
The other rookies are San Beda College transferee Anton Altamirano, La Salle-Greenhills standout Alyson Carlos, 6’11” Pampanga find Jericho de Guzman, Ralph Deles, Andrew Musngi, LSGH bet Michael Pate, Far Eastern University junior player Mark Romero and San Sebastian College’s Paolo Taha.
