After a terrific 2008-09 season capped by an MVP trophy, Helterbrand’s game dropped a bit due to injury and the abundance of guards in the squad. Helterbrand averaged just 8.6 points per game, his lowest since his 4.6 ppg in the 2002 season. He averaged double figures in scoring for the last 5 seasons before 2009-10. Still, the 29-year-old point guard remained as one of the top guards in the league last season with his 4.6 assists per game ranking him No. 4 among locals. Ginebra fans are hoping that Helterbrand can still find that fire to help his team get back into the thick of the fight for another PBA crown or two this season.
