Maynilad freshens up V-League
MANILA, Philippines - Notwithstanding its scrambling five-set win over Perpetual Help late Thursday, Maynilad remains upbeat of its stint in the Shakey’s V-League Open Conference that goes beyond fielding in a highly competitive team.
“We’re here to further promote sportsmanship,” said Maynilad president Ricky Vargas. “Sportsmanship is about reaching a level of confidence, skill and maturity to accept accountability in losing and knowing fully well that winning is a product of hard work, not influence. A sincere reciprocated handshake or a bow after the competition speaks for itself, signals acceptance that all was fair.”
Like all the companies under Maynilad chair and businessman-sportsman Manny V. Pangilinan, Vargas said Maynilad promotes a culture of champions and believes in sports as a means of inspiring, motivating and driving its workforce to strive for excellence.
“We are an organization who gives opportunities to qualified and capable athletes to establish a career after playing competitive leagues, may it be professional and or amateur competitions,” said Vargas.
Maynilad’s roster in the Shakey’s V-League is composed of employees who sacrifice time and energy to go beyond their duties and help represent the company.
“So we recognize the value and contribution of sports in the development of our employees’ personal and career growth,” said Vargas of his team, winner in the recent MVP Olympics.
According to Vargas, Maynilad will not be confined to playing in the country’s premier women’s volley league but will reach out to various communities of the company’s concession area, including the depressed ones, to conduct a series of clinics.
“It teaches positive values and allows us to inspire the youth to value not just their health but also to value clean water which Maynilad provides,” said Vargas.
Still, he stressed the team will play their utmost best and stay competitive throughout its campaign.
“We are up against the best schools and the best players from our Armed Forces,” said Vargas. “We would like to prove that to be the best you must be able to compete and be competitive with the best.”
